International Babaji Kriya Yoga
Kriya Babaji Nagaraj consolidated the insights and traditions of the 18 Tamil Siddhas into a dynamic and practical yoga for modern times, known as KRIYA YOGA.
Kriya Yoga promotes well-being across the five bodies or modes of functioning of the human being: physical, vital, mental, intellectual, and spiritual.
On the physical level, well-being is achieved through Hatha Yoga.
In the vital or pranic (energy) body, it is achieved through pranayama techniques.
In the mental body, it is achieved through meditation techniques.
Mantras enhance the intellectual body.
Bhakti (love or devotion) nurtures the spiritual field.
Babaji personally taught Yogi S.A.A. RAMAIAH (YOGIAR) in the Himalayas to establish the BABAJI YOGA SANGAM in his name and to preserve the techniques of Kriya Yoga without alteration. The order was founded on October 17, 1952.
Yogi Ramaiah (Yogiar) initiated students worldwide until his mahasamadhi in 2006. Since then, the techniques have been upheld and the order has been propagated by his students across the world.
Yogi SAA Ramaiah
Yogiar's spiritual journey began even before his birth, as his family had a Brahmin lady read the Tamil version of Valmiki's Ramayanam, an epic of India, while he was in his mother's womb. After his birth, he was named RAMAIAH (S.A.A. Ramaswami), honoring an ancestor.
As a child, Yogiar suffered from polio, but was rehabilitated through sesame oil massages and daily sand treatments at Marina Beach. During this time, he met his first mentor, Chellaswami, who taught him about true freedom and the foundations of Kriya Yoga.
Satguru Babaji guided Yogiar, bringing him and other students together to establish the Kriya Babaji Yoga Sangam in 1952. Despite suffering from Sacroiliac bone T.B. in 1944, Yogiar was inspired to live and practice yoga, hearing a divine voice that urged him to realize God.
Yogiar completed his education, earning a Master’s Degree from Madras University, and later pursued extensive yogic training under Satguru Babaji in the Himalayas. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he demonstrated his yogic mastery to medical professionals by manipulating his body functions, confirming the efficacy of Kriya Yoga.
Yogi Ramaiah wrote extensively on yoga, translated ancient Tamil Yoga Siddha manuscripts, and published thousands of verses of Siddhas Agastiar and Boganathar. He lectured globally, demonstrating how yogic practices could treat various ailments, and worked on integrating these practices with allopathic medicine.
Yogiar was awarded a Ph.D. by Columbia Pacific University and was recognized for his contributions to both yoga and science. He initiated over 3,000 students worldwide into advanced phases of Tamil Siva Yoga Siddhantham and promoted the unity of science and spirituality.
Yogiar worked tirelessly to spread Kriya Yoga until his mahasamadhi on July 12, 2006, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His legacy continues through the Kriya Babaji Yoga Sangam, inspiring and guiding practitioners globally. As Manikavasagar stated in Thiruvasagam, Yogiar attained release and dwells in eternity, united with the divine.
